Free Choice Book Project Information

ABC Book

Create an ABC book using at least ten letters from the alphabet.  Include a cover for the book.  The letters must represent an important character, description, plot, message, setting, idea, or feeling about the book.  Each letter needs to have a description and an illustration.

Story Collage

Create a story collage using a piece of small poster board.  Be sure to draw an appropriate setting for the story.  Next, draw or cut-out and paste pictures that represent each of the following information: main characters, main events (beginning, middle, and end), the problem, solution, and what you like best about this book.

Illustrated Timeline

Create a timeline of the book.  Your timeline must include at least ten major events with descriptions in order from beginning to end of the story along with pictures to represent each event.  You should a total of ten pictures along with your ten major events along your timeline.

Story in a Bottle

Use a 2-liter clean, empty soda bottle and remove the label.  Create a new label to paste on the bottle.  The new label should include: the setting of the story, title, author's name, and three facts about the story you read along with three illustrations.  Fill the bottle with items that represent the characters in the story and what the story was about.

Story Mobile

Create a hanging mobile with information on both sides of each item.  Include a picture of setting and description (on back), picture of the plot and description (on back), and a picture of your favorite part of the book and why (on back).

Paper Plate Tri-Orama

Make a tri-orama out of paper plates.  Have each tri-orama scene show an important part or event from the story.  Be sure to include the setting and something that demonstrates what the plot of the story is about on each scene.  Write a summary of the book to paste on the bottom of the tri-orama.  Be sure to include your name on the summary page.

Book Jacket

Design a new book jacket for your story.  Front, back, and inside flaps should be filled with: cover illustration of setting and main characters, summary of story, author information, and book review quotes.  Be sure to use your own words for this project.

Story Scrapbook

Create a scrapbook about the story.  Include a cover page and pages demonstrating pictures and information on each of the following parts of the story:  characters, setting major events, problem, and solution.  Each picture will need to have a brief description.  Include at least ten photos.

Letter To Author

Using a friendly letter format to write a letter to the author.  You letter must have the following parts: a short introduction of you, what you liked about the book and characters, ow you felt while reading it and why, questions for the author, and why you would recommend this book to someone else.

Instructions for All Projects

1.  Every month you will have a new book for your book project. You will be able to choose which type of        book project to complete for the book read.  Once you have completed a particular book you may not        repeat it in future months.  You will be submitting a book project fore the months of September, October,      November, December, January, February, March, April, and May for a total of nine projects.

2.  If you have any questions on how to complete any of the book projects, please do not hesitate to ask me      for assistance.

3.  Be creative with the materials you will use such as: markers, paints, construction paper, craft supplies,            etc.

4.  You can use your own drawings, clip art, or internet pictures.  Any hand-drawn illustrations should                always be completed in color.

5.  All book projects must contain the title of the book and the author's name.

6.  Spelling and grammar count on all projects!  This will take part of your overall grade.

7.  You can type information for any project but all information should be written in your own words.  No          plagiarism will be allowed!

8.  All projects are due on the last school day of the month.  If your project is not turned in on time, you will        receive a zero for your grade.  Remember that these projects are worth thirty percent of your total                grade.

9.  The main purpose of the these book projects is to get you to be enthusiastic about reading as well as            exploring different genres of books.  I will be looking for your overall understanding of the book as well        as for evidence that you have read the story.  Creativity and neatness will be a crucial part of your overall      project and grade.

Free Choice Book Project and Student Selection Forms

Parents,

     Please look in the back of your child's behavior folder to find their Free Choice Book Project Forms.  All of my students should have already begun working on these projects at home.  Last Friday, the Student Selection Forms were due and some of them had not yet been completed as of this afternoon (when I filled out their behavior charts for today.) 
     Please make sure that your child is working on this project because it is worth thirty percent of their grade.
     Also, some of my students' behavior charts have not been signed.  It is very important that you are all aware of your child's behavior at school.  Sometimes, it could be the reason for a student having a low grade on an assignment / activity on a particular day. 
     Thank you parents again for taking the time that you do to assist your child with their academic work.  I really appreciate whatever you do for them!  Because anything that helps them, helps me.  And everything that helps me, helps them.  Keep in mind, we are all on the same team trying to reach the same goal!!  And that would be, success for your child, my student!!!
